Situated in the westernmost region of continental Europe and the very south of the Portuguese mainland, the Algarve covers an area of roughly 4,995 km2 and has a resident population of 395,218 inhabitants spread across 16 municipalities.

It is divided into three geographical areas, all of them with extremely beautiful scenery: coastal areas, upland areas and the central area consisting of a hilly limestone landscape. With its shores lapped by the Atlantic Ocean, the coastal region stretches over 220 kilometres and is clearly divided into two quite distinct areas: the western coastline is essentially rocky, while the southern coastline is formed by long expanses of sandy beaches. Roughly 50% of the territory is composed of hilly regions, formed largely by the mountain ranges of Serra de Espinhaço de Cão, Serra de Monchique (where Fóia is located with the highest altitude in the Algarve – 900 metres above sea level) and Serra do Caldeirão. The Barrocal region, the transitional limestone area between the coast and the hills, also known as the beiraserra, consists of extensive areas planted with fruit orchards, supplying most of the Algarve’s agricultural produce.

Put your feet in the sand and feel your body temperature rising. Then close your eyes and let the breeze push you gently towards a cool, refreshing dip in the sea. The Algarve gives you precisely that kind of sensation, a feeling of pure pleasure. Famous for its golden sands and clear, transparent water, it is the perfect destination for all those who enjoy beaches and lots of sun. With its Mediterranean-like climate, which continues well beyond the summer months, the Algarve offers you an irresistible invitation to visit the region all year round. Take advantage of your stay to discover the many small coves, where you’ll constantly find new beaches nestling amongst the rocks, or perhaps you might prefer to spend some time away from the sand and appreciate all the other delights that the Algarve has to offer you.

• Away >From the Greens

Either before or after yet another round of golf, you should take some time to discover the other Algarve away from the fairways and greens. The region’s beaches are like genuine picture postcards and are the perfect setting for sunbathing, seaside strolls or relaxing boat rides.

The natural parks and the surrounding hills are ideal for setting out to discover nature in its purest and wildest forms. Hiking, safaris, bike-riding or horse-riding, these are just some of the activities that you can enjoy with the magnificent Algarve landscape as your permanent natural backdrop.

Or you might prefer to take a special treatment in a spa, taste the delicious local shellfish on a restaurant terrace overlooking the sea, take in a concert or show, go shopping, visit churches and historical monuments or enjoy a flutter at the casino, all of them exciting suggestions that will guarantee you some moments of pure relaxation and fun.

Besides this wide range of entertainment possibilities, the Algarve also offers you excellent conditions for working. The region is equipped with the most modern business infrastructures and provides a whole host of support services for business meetings. All of which makes the Algarve a destination where work is also a pleasure.
